“Girls fighting over Gemini and pisces, every corner it's war and crisis
Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda and ISIS, how come the poor people are the nicest?
Africa blessed with lotta beautiful history
But these people makes we feel like everything is a mystery
They make we live we lives in a jittery, we pray to God father to give us victory.”
Where’s the Meaning?
From the very first lines of this song, Patoranking presents some of the biggest international crises the world is currently facing. From more prevalent issues like insurgency, famine, racism and police brutality, to less prevalent but very much present issues like skin bleaching and adultery. This song and the video serve as eye openers and a call to action for people and the government to take the necessary steps to end pain and suffering in war torn and neglected parts of the world.
Beyond the powerful lyrics and tune, the strong depictions in the music video help highlight and build empathy for these disturbing issues. One such depiction is a protest raging outside what appears to be the White House in what is shown to be a war torn zone, where Patoranking is shown carrying and assisting a little white girl, illustrating the need for the world to become ʻcolor blindʻ when it comes to helping one another. even breaking into q churc choir to strongly deliver the true message of the song – LOVE.
Beyond evoking a strong emotional response, titling the song “Heal the World” reminds us of Michael Jackson’s hit of the same name and in the process, the need to spread love regardless of age, race and social class. Patoranking, a Nigerian artist, points out widespread misconceptions and misunderstandings that exist amongst foreigners about Africa especially, because there is a lot of undocumented and mis-documented African history.
“Africa blessed with lotta beautiful history
But these people makes we feel like everything is a mystery”
With a beautiful melody and touching video, Patoranking preaches that love is all we need, while also pointing out that some people (politicians and people in power) are sitting on their hands, too slow to address these issues that exist. By preaching love, Patoranking hopes to spur empathy and thus action from global leadership.
Are there people who are profiting directly from terrorism and insurgency?
Really, what would it cost to feed the whole world? Are there now more people than food available to feed everyone?
Who is responsible for re-orientating foreigners on the history and current state of Africa as a continent? Why is there minimal information on the history of Africa despite the fact that it is the cradle of humanity? Is this intentional with reference to colonialism?
